Lasted from August 1990 until February 1991. Was the result of military conflict between Iraq and 34 other nations. The goal of the U.N. authorized conflict was to drive Iraq out of Kuwait (Kuwait had been annexed by Iraq in August of 1990). The majority of the military forces was from the United States. Other countries fighting Iraq included Saudi Arabia, the U.K. and Egypt. After Iraq invaded Kuwait, President George H. W. Bush sent troops to Saudi Arabia to monitor the Iraq forces.
